Your past self is the yardstick of all your current achievements.
In fact, the only person you can ever really exceed is yourself.
When we have big successes, we often look back and see how far we’ve come.
But in the day-to-day and week-to-week, it’s often hard to notice we’re improving.
EVERYONE has the chance to grow and change.
No matter your age or background, you are learning. You are growing.
But are you noticing it as it happens?
Probably not.
We look at the same face in the mirror every day, without seeing the small changes.
As those changes add up, we still think “that’s me.”
But it’s worth taking time out to notice your small wins, not just big ones.
How do you do that?
It’s simple:
GIVE
YOURSELF
CREDIT.
No one’s in a better place to notice your growth than you.
And by practicing compassion for yourself, you’ll feel better.
Here are a few ideas:
1. KEEP A “DONE” LIST
Keep a list of things you get done every day. Pause, reflect, and tell yourself “Good job!” for each one.
2. DO A NIGHTLY RECAP
Spend five minutes a night writing down things that went well, including things YOU did a great job on.
3. PRACTICE GRATITUDE
Look around and find ten things in your environment you enjoy, appreciate, and are glad you have.
Don’t wait for others to give you credit. Take time to celebrate yourself and appreciate who you are.
YOU are worth the effort.
